A Tale of Two Parking Lots

The normally busy Market Basket location on Fort Eddy Road is nearly empty; Hannaford, just down the street, however, is bustling.

If one needed a visual understanding of what the current Market Basket situation means in terms of the bottom line – business, foot traffic, profits, etc. – take a look at these two pictures.

One, shows a relatively busy Hannaford parking lot on Fort Eddy Road at around 3 p.m. on July 23; the other, a few minutes later, shows a nearly empty Market Basket parking lot on Fort Eddy Road.

Anyone who has been to Market Basket’s Fort Eddy Road location knows that it is rarely empty, even in the middle of the afternoon. Hannaford has varied times when it is busy.

Outside of the Market Basket location, a number of younger staffers were standing on the sidewalk, holding signs and waving to supporters who were honking their horns in solidarity.
