Patch Editor Volunteers at Families in Transition
Give 5 program encourages employees to give back to Concord, other New Hampshire communities.
The week of July 22, was the “Give 5” volunteer initiative for Patch, company-wide, where staffers offer volunteer hours to their communities.
Give 5 for this quarter was originally scheduled for earlier in the year but later, postponed. I had planned ahead though by volunteering for crosswalk duty at the Kiwanis Fair in the middle of May, since the organization was in need of folks to help out.
I was stationed on Loudon Road on May 18, for a couple of hours with Kiwanians, making sure that folks who wanted to get to the fair were able to in a safe manner.

To complete the volunteer hours, I also took time to assist Families in Transition, on July 24, a nonprofit located in Concord and Manchester that assists homeless individuals and families.
At the organization’s Outfitters Thrift Store, located on South Main Street, I was given the opportunity to do a number of tasks at the store including sorting through donated clothes, steaming the wrinkles out of shirts, pricing and tagging the shirts and putting them out on display. I also assisted in cleaning and dusting some of the retail shelves, books, and kitchen items that were for sale at the store.

Kirk Taschereau, the assistant retail manager, was nice enough to take these pictures and also helped me get the tasks done.
If you run a nonprofit or charity and would like to be assisted during the next Give 5 initiative later this year, please email me at concord-nh-at-patch.com.
