Lucius Lets Loose at Granite State Music Festival

Two-day Concord music event deemed a success.

More sponsors, more food, and more things to do will eventually lead to more people, and that is exactly what happened at the latest Granite State Musical Festival this weekend.

Attendance at the two-day event was up compared to previous years with the help, according to organizers, of better marketing, some new blood on the organization’s board, and a get-out-the-community boost of energy from volunteers, sponsors, and fans of the event, hoping to make it even bigger and better than ever before.

And it appears as if they all succeeded.

The festival capped off with an amazing set by Lucius on Sunday night, an up-and-coming unorthodox quintet whose breathless harmonies are simply luscious and luxurious. The already amazing “Go Home,” a deep cut from the band’s debut full-length CD, was reworked a bit and simply stunned with its passion and brittleness. The radio favorite “Turn It Around” was a crowd pleaser too.

The band’s performance was a homecoming, of sorts.

Peter Lalish, a guitarist wth the band, grew up in Northwood, and attended the Concord Community Music School (proceeds from the event will go to music education scholarships at the school). In the middle of “Wilde Woman,” the title track of the debut collection, he thanked his mom from the stage, much to the amusement of the crowd.

Pat & the Hats, a local outfit featuring Patrik Gochez and festival organizer Scott Solsky, held its CD release party at the event and played a bevy of catchy numbers showing the band’s broad and wide array of influences.

Boston’s Kingsley Flood also performed a solid set that included some tricky stops and starts and loose horn sections.

The Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki Trio also performed.

On Saturday, the Adam Ezra Group reportedly offered an amazing closing set with locals like Chris Peters and Ghost Dinner Band also performing.
