Bauman, Fiancée Expecting First Child

Nearly one year ago, current Chelmsford and former Concord resident Jeff Bauman's life forever changed when he lost both of his legs in the Boston Marathon bombings. This year, his life will be changing as well, but in a much different way.

In a Sunday post on the "Jeff Bauman -- Boston Strong, True Patriot and Hero" Facebook page, it was announced that Bauman and his girlfriend, Erin Hurley, are engaged and expecting a baby this July.

"We are so happy to share with you exciting news that has happened over the last few months," the post said. "Jeff and Erin became engaged and are expecting their first child in the summer!!! Congratulations Jeff and Erin!!"

Bauman's rescue received global attention as the heart-wrenching image of the Chelmsford resident, severely injured, being wheeled away from the Boston Marathon bombing scene by first responders and good samaritan Carlos Arredondo was published around the world.

In addition, Bauman has been hailed one of the Boston Marathon heroes, helping identify Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as the alleged bomber.

In the months following the bombings, Bauman had both of his legs amputated. He learned to walk on his prosthetic legs, and he is getting set to release a book called "Stronger," written with Bret Witter.

The book is scheduled to be published on April 8, and excerpts were released Saturday to Parade Magazine.

In the excerpts from the book, Bauman recalls the moments before the bomb went off just in front of him. He also remembers the rescue and talks about his lengthy recovery. 

Hurley shares her perspective of the events of that April day in addition to announcing the couple's news.

"Nothing about this year was planned," writes Hurley in the Parade excerpt. "Not much about the future is, either, but that’s life, full of twists and turns. We’re on a new path, one we never anticipated, but it’s a path that is our own."
