Cornerstone Action has asked the Texas Senator to speak at its annual dinner this fall.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), said to be eyeing a run for president in 2016, has been invited to speak in New Hampshire at Cornerstone Action's annual dinner. Ashley Pratte, executive director of Cornerstone Action, said Friday that she has been in contact with Cruz's scheduler, and he is "very interested" in attending. She expects to know within the next two weeks whether Cruz will be able to make it to the dinner. Cornerstone's dinner will be held in late October or early November, Pratte said. Texas Gov. Rick Perry was the keynote speaker at last year's dinner. Video of Perry's speech went viral, with some accusing him of being drunk or on drugs, a claim he denied. So far this year, potential GOP presidential candidates Bobby Jindal and…

At 100, the New Hampshire Primary is as strong as ever, advocates say.
Political activists, historians, and public officials, as well as the media, came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of the New Hampshire primary, which was signed into law on May 21, 1913. The Bullock Act, as it was known at the time, changed the way the party delegates were chosen, from behind closed doors meetings, mainly controlled by the Boston & Maine Railroad, to direct election of delegates via presidential preference balloting. The family of Rep. Stephen Bullock, D-Richmond, was on hand to accept thanks from the state. The family had donated a number of items to the state from the family’s archives. The attendees shared political war stories, cracked jokes, thanked Secretary of State Bill Gardner for his tenacious defense of…

Not once ... but twice ... U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte gets a new pronunciation at NH GOP fundraising dinner.
Maybe it was the bright lights. Maybe it was excitement of the night. Maybe it was being from Wisconsin. Whatever it was, Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus had a hard time remembering how to pronounce a very important name – New Hampshire’s junior Senator and fellow Republican Kelly Ayotte. Story and video: Rand Paul Wows NH GOP Crowd Story and video: Rand Paul in NH to ‘Grow’ Republican Party At the NH GOP’s sold out dinner on May 20, Priebus mispronounced Ayotte’s name not once, but twice, calling her “Eye-yotte” and not “Ay-yotte.” Democrats pounced on the mangling, with new NHDP Communications Director Harrell Kirstein posting on Twitter: “Nothing says rising star like your party chair mispronouncing your name. Twice. In your…

The event will be held at the Statehouse to commemorate the passage of legislation creating the presidential primary.
Tuesday, May 21 marks 100 years since the New Hampshire House and Senate passed and the governor signed into law legislation creating New Hampshire's presidential primary. To commemorate the occasion, a public birthday celebration will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Executive Council chambers at the Statehouse to honor the families of those who were most responsible for the primary becoming law. Birthday cake will be served. Speakers will include Gov. Maggie Hassan, Senate President Peter Bragdon, House Speaker Terie Norelli, primary veterans from both parties, and family members of the elected officials who acted together a century ago to create the primary. Possible 2016 presidential candidate will be in Concord in June.
Another potential 2016 presidential candidate will be in Concord in June, according to WMUR-TV. U.S. Sen. Kirstein Gillibrand, D-NY, is the marquee name listed on invitations promoting at $250-plus a ticket fete for U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, to be held at the home of state Sen. Sylvia Larsen, D-Concord. Many Democratic activists pining for a 2016 Hillary Clinton candidacy consider Gillibrand a dark horse alternative even though she has openly denied having interest, telling Capital NY last week, “No, I have no plans to run.” Trips to New Hampshire though allow speculators to still speculate, even about dark horses that deny interest. In other 2016 news, the Rand Paul fundraiser for next week, put together by the NH GOP, sold out the …

Reclaim America says Sen. Kelly Ayotte stands with conservative values.
A potential 2016 First-in-the-Nation New Hampshire Primary candidate is now coming to Sen. Kelly Ayotte’s defense with a major ad buy, according to an online news report. The Daily Caller is reporting that FL Sen. Marco Rubio, a potential GOP presidential candidate, has a political action committee that is dropping “six figures” on an ad defending Ayotte, and reportedly countering claims made in an ad buy from Mayor Michael Bloomberg's PAC, Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. The Reclaim America PAC ads will debut on Tuesday, according to the report. The ad stated that Ayotte voted for expanded background checks and mental health screenings, adding that she stands with "our values." The ad is the second buy in as many weeks being put …

The Republican governor of Louisiana appeared at a PAC fundraiser in Manchester Friday.
MANCHESTER, NH – A crowd of about 50 Republicans trickled into the Radisson Hotel Ballroom here Friday night to hear what Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had to say about the future of the GOP. "We lost an election, it's time to get over it," he said. "The reality is I'm tired of the navel-gazing. I'm tired of all the public confessions. The reality is we already have one liberal party in America. We don't need two liberal parties." As the head of the Republican Governors Association, Jindal has been making regular appearances for various groups across the country. The governor has been kicked around as a possible presidential hopeful in 2016. Jindal's New Hampshire visit, the first this year for a potential 2016 candidate, was for a …

It's still very, very early, but to this point, it looks like Hillary Clinton is almost a lock for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. A Quinnipiac University poll released this week had her with 65 percent of her party's support, with Vice President Joe Biden a distant second at just 13 percent. Polls of New Hampshire voters by Public Policy Polling and the University of New Hampshire Survey Center have shown similar results. Clinton also fares well in potential match-ups with top Republican presidential contenders like Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Chris Christie. She leads Paul 52 to 41 percent and Rubio 52 to 38 percent in New Hampshire, according to PPP. That begs the question: Is there anyone who stands a chance against Clinton…

He will be an interesting candidate. Liberals have a bit more of a challenge when they have to gear up their attack machine on someone who is not a white male. They'll have to walk the fine line of attackin Cruz yet not offending the hispanic community. Should be fun to watch.   more ›
