Weekend Rain Causes Sidewalk Sinkhole on Loudon Road

The heavy rainstorms on Friday evening and early Saturday morning created a sinkhole on a sidewalk on Loudon Road.

The damaged area is on the sidewalk located on the eastbound side of the road, just east of the .

On the morning of Aug. 11, a officer was seen stationed at the sinkhole, inspecting the area. A short time later, safety cones and a marker were posted at the hole, warning pedestrians of the damage.

The sinkhole is located right near a storm drain that runs into wetlands located behind the theater complex and the . The storm drain – which is located about 40 to 50 feet down a slope from the road – was gushing with water on Saturday.
