VIDEO: Sha-Na-Na's Bowser to Concord Seniors: Vote Kuster

Singer talks about preserving Medicare, promotes 2nd Congressional District Democrat.

Outgoing state Rep. Bob Williams, D-Concord, held a meet-and-greet event for registered Democrats at Havenwood-Heritage Heights on Oct. 12, which featured a special guest: Former Sha-Na-Na singer Jon “Bowser” Bauman.

Bauman, a Medicare preservation advocate, has been traveling the country talking anyone he can about preserving the program for both current seniors and future generations.

Bauman called the 2nd Congressional District race “one of the most important congressional races in the country … there’s simply no question about it.” He said his position is simple, summarized in two words: No vouchers. While he was associated with the music of the 1950s and early 1960s, Bauman stressed that no one should want to turn the clock back to those days “when 35 percent of seniors lived below the poverty line and 50 percent of seniors had no healthcare at all” and there were no facilities like Havenwood, where people could live independently.

Before sitting down, Bauman doo-wopped a short song promoting a vote for Kuster.

“I’m glad he talked me into letting him speak,” quipped Williams after Bauman sat down.
