VIDEO: Rick Santorum Meets Merry Concord Voters

Former Senator talks up manufacturing plan, offers "Merry Christmas" to shoppers.

Former Sen. , R-Penn., campaigned in on Dec. 2, during the annual shopping celebration.

The candidate introduced himself to carolers at the , ventured into to visit with craft vendors, and shook a lot of hands on Main Street. He even dropped some money into a Salvation Army kettle.

While exiting Eagle Square, Santorum was asked why he didn’t spend time on ’s lap, finding out if he had been naughty or nice.

“No, not tonight,” he said. “That’s for my kids to answer.”

In front of the former Baby Bungalow storefront, which is one of Downtown Concord’s , Santorum talked about his American manufacturing proposal, saying it would get the country back to work and help produce products for consumption in the states and exportation.

Most of the merry shoppers were happy to greet Santorum although on a few occasions, folks peppered him with questions.

Ryan Stohrer, a student, asked the candidate about whether or not he would raise taxes on the upper 3 percent of wage earners in the United States. Santorum answered that he supported eliminating loopholes and deductions while lowering the income tax rate for everyone, with upper income earners paying around 28 percent.

Stohrer said later that he been watching the candidates in the race even though he won’t be old enough to vote in the primary.

“I loved what he told ... definitely liked his answer,” he said. “I think what he’s doing could possibly help our economy ... I’ve been following the top running candidates and I think he definitely up there on the top.”

At another point in the walk, close to the intersection Pleasant Street, a slew of Concord High School students began to chant name, after seeing Santorum approach.
