VIDEO: Nominate a Citizen of the Year

Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce honor will go to one person later this year.

Nominations for the 2012 are due this Friday.

In the past, according to , president of the Chamber, all kinds of different people, from all walks of life, have been nominated. The nominees don’t have to be Chamber members. They don’t have to live in Concord. But Sink said the nominees need to have done a variety of things for the community, over an extended period of time, and have had a major impact on the city.

“There are a lot of people out there that are very deserving of this award,” he said. “We have given it out to a lot of the likely suspects. But there are people that aren’t always at the top of everybody else’s radar screen that give a lot to the community but aren’t really heralded or do so in a quiet way.”

The element of surprise is always a fun part of the award. Last year, . He was on the nominating committee and the committee members had to work around him in order to surprise him.

“We are probably 50 to 75 percent successful in keeping it from the nominee,” Sink said, adding that organizing the event can be difficult, to ensure that family and colleagues are at the event but the secret doesn’t get out.

Sink added that Ciborowski was caught “completely by surprise.”

To nominate an individual for the award, download this PDF and submit it to the Chamber. Nominations are due at the end of business on Friday, Sept. 15.
