VIDEO: A Groggy Gary Johnson Files for NH Primary

Candidate took a midnight flight from Phoenix to file on time, in person.

Former New Mexico Gov. signed up for the New Hampshire Primary on Oct. 28, the last day to file.

Johnson took a midnight flight from Phoenix into Boston, Mass., last night, arriving at around 7 a.m. today, and then drove up to Concord to file. The candidate was campaigning in Arizona when he and staffers realized that they missed the deadline to file by surrogate, which was Oct. 27. Johnson paid $500 for the plane ticket to fly back to New England, he said.

“We screwed up,” he said, a bit sleepy-eyed. “Stuff happens all the time … it’s how you deal with it. Ultimately, one person is responsible and that’s me.”

Johnson was a bit shocked by the amount of media representatives who were in attendance when he entered the , joking, “Are you sure you all got the right person? I’m Gary Johnson, not .”

Johnson talked about his recent bike ride across New Hampshire, the proposal, and the need to get into more debates, adding that he was requesting the Republican National Committee to call on the networks to give him access to the debates, especially since he is polling at the same level or higher as other candidates who were included. If Perry decides to forgo the debates, he'll offered himself up as a surrogate, he said.

“We’re going to keep plugging away,” he said. “Keep plugging away.”

After exiting the signing, he thanked some of his supporters who attended the signing and debated tax policy with some pro-Social Security protesters waiting for Perry.
