St. Hilaire Out

Executive Councilor decides against running for re-election.

Citing worries about redistricting, Executive Councilor Dan St. Hilaire, R-Concord, has decided against running for re-election, according to sources.

Last week, St. Hilaire said he was leaning against a run but said he would wait to decide after Gov. John Lynch made a decision about the redistricting proposal. Earlier today, Lynch indicated to Statehouse sources that he would not veto the redistricting plan.

In a statement, New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Wayne MacDonald thanked St. Hilaire for his service to our state and for his leadership in Concord.

“With his help, the executive branch has helped to prevent wasteful spending and thereby reduce the state's inflated budget over all,” MacDonald wrote. “As a public servant, he has demanded accountability from department heads and made sure the Council fulfilled its responsibility in the oversight of state government. Contracts have been given very thorough scrutiny.”

MacDonald called St. Hilaire “a bright and talented leader” adding that he was “looking forward to seeing his continued involvement in the future.”

Earlier today, before St. Hilaire made his decision, Concord Democrat Colin Van Ostern filed to run for the seat. He chose not to comment specifically on St. Hilaire’s potential decision.

St. Hilaire did not comment on his plans earlier in the day when attending the campaign filing by U.S. Rep. Charles Bass, R-NH-2.

Rosano runs again ... in a new district

Frank Rosano, a Republican from Forest Street, has decided to run for state representative, throwing his hat into the Ward 5/Hopkinton combination district, along with Republican Debra Johnson and Democrat Mary Jane Wallner, all running for three seats.

Redistricting put together by city officials last year slipped Rosano - who was previously on the western edge of Ward 4 - into Ward 5.

Rosano is no stranger to local politics. He unsuccessfully ran for the District 11 seat in 2010, 2008, and 2006, which, at the time, comprised Wards 4, 8, 9, and 10. He was also a candidate for the Concord School Board in 2007 and 2002.

This is great news for the state. His lack of ethics on the City Council is testimony to his poor character.
