VIDEO: Editor Wins Grange Award

Media Award honors Tony Schinella's Concord NH Patch coverage.

Editor's note: Concord Patch Editor Tony Schinella has been with Patch from the day we launched our first sites in New Hampshire almost a year ago. He's covered presidential candidates, the state Legislature, and all manner of stories about what makes Concord tick. As someone with deep roots in the city, he truly cares about Concord, and it shows. Last night, he was honored by the Concord Grange #322 with the group's first ever Media Award for all of his hard work over the past 11 months.

Tony Schinella, the Concord NH Patch local editor, received the first ever Media Award from the Concord Grange #322 at a community awards ceremony on April 30.

State Rep. Dick Patten, who served as emcee of the event and is also a Patch blogger, said the award was being given to Schinella for two reasons: He had been working very hard establishing something new – a website with free online news and events – and “for all you’re doing to promote the good in this community.

“No matter what it is, he’s out covering it,” Patten said to about 50 people in attendance. “He’s honest ... he tells the truth and he doesn’t fudge it, no matter what.”

This is the second time Schinella has received an award from the Grange.

In 2007, he received a community award for work with local nonprofits, serving on the boards of a number of groups while managing a local radio station. On both occasions, Schinella was covering the Grange Awards as a news story and was surprised to receive the awards.

Concord NH Patch will have an image gallery and other information from the Grange Awards ceremony at a future date.
