DOT Chief to Seek Toll Increase
Christopher Clement says he plans to request the hike this fall.
New Hampshire Department of Transportation Commissioner Christopher Clement told a legislative committee Tuesday that he plans to ask the governor and Executive Council for a toll increase in the fall.
DOT officials met with the House Public Works Committee to review the state's 10-year Transportation Plan, the Union Leader reported. During that discussion, it was mentioned that over the next 10 years of the plan, revenue is $1.33 billion short. Clement said more investment is needed, and a toll hike is one way to accomplish that.
Among the "unfunded needs" in the plan, according to the Union Leader, are an additional $250 million to complete the Interstate 93 widening from Exit 3 to Manchester, and $90 million to widen I-93 from Bow through Concord. Also needed is $56 million to widen the F.E. Everett Turnpike to three lanes from Merrimack to Bedford. Among the projects being deferred due to a lack of money are the final phases of Broad Street reconstruction in Nashua.
