Rep. Ejected for Yelling 'Sieg Heil' at Speaker O'Brien

Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, R-Manchester, made the comment during debate on the Voter ID bill.

It was chaos at the Statehouse today, as House Speaker Bill O'Brien, R-Mont Vernon, ordered Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, R-Manchester, removed from the House chamber after he reportedly yelled "Sieg Heil" during debate on the Voter ID bill.

Here's what lawmakers and other observers had to say on Twitter in the aftermath of Vaillancourt's outburst. He later apologized on the House floor.

Steve Vaillancourt refused to tell citizens where he stands on any of the issues addressed in the 2010 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart, national media, and prominent political leaders. I guess we all know now what his views and leadership style is.

Have a good day Jim, your rants relate to drinking too much Fox tea! Voter ID will actually cost us more money....the fee they charge doesn't cover the cost of production and the cost of employees offering the service; you have not done your homework....same reason they don't want the students to vote in their state of study (Although O'Brien's son voted in 2 states in the last election); do your homework...they want to surpress the educated and the Latinos because they vote mostly democrat...your prankster who tried to cause a voter ID problem forgot that it's a federal offense, just like opening someone's mail, and he's coping with that as we speak. That's why we don't need a watch dog for voter ID, it's never been a problem in NH....look that up! Also, like opening someone else's mail is a federal offense, are you going to ask the GOP to hire people to monitor that as well? Happy ranting, I'm signing off....

Rep. Vaillencourt was persuaded by an ad hoc House committee to apologize. He apologized for speaking German and said he would not do so again. HJ Res 37 is a was a cheap attempt to kill Net Neutrality and toss the net into the hands of the cable companies.
HR 1229, 1230, 1231. All three of these mean in effect, basically the same thing. We are big money, we are Big Oil and we don't give a rat’s rear end if we have another B.P. disaster. What the Republicans have brought to Concord by mindlessly voting a straight ticket is anything but dignity. They have brought a bunch of moronic Tea Partiers that elected a two-bit dicatator as Speaker of the House. O'Brien has turned our government into a serious embarrassment. It would funny if not for the fact that they have enacted gun laws that undermine public safety and attacked the education and healthcare systems that our citizens badly need. Much of this has not been accomplished directly by these non-representative representatives of the people but by inviting outside money and people into NH such as ALEC, The Free State Project, PAC contributions and the criminal James O'Keefe and his Project Veritas.

The problem as I see it is not only rampant ignorance- as is displayed by the crazed fanatics on this board- but the delight they take in showing off their hatred. It's a group of people that are not for something- they're just against a lot of things. For them, it feels good to hate, it feels good to be ignorant, it feels good to revel in others' misery, and no matter how many times you ask them for a fact-based argument, to them it only validates their idiotic hate

Yeah, that cute line is going around in GOP circles. It's stupid. It's projection to assume people voted for Obama to prove (or disprove) anything.

Anyway, you don't provide any information in this post. HOW is he an "egotistical maniac"? WHAT is it about his "agenda" that is "...not for the betterment of our beloved USA"? Sounds to me like you've been spending too much time listening to talking heads spout infotainment.

From The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law:

"There is no documented wave or trend of individuals voting multiple times, voting as someone else, or voting despite knowing that they are ineligible. Indeed, evidence from the microscopically scrutinized 2004 gubernatorial election in Washington State actually reveals just the opposite: though voter fraud does happen, it happens approximately 0.0009% of the time. The similarly closely-analyzed 2004 election in Ohio revealed a voter fraud rate of 0.00004%. National Weather Service data shows that Americans are struck and killed by lightning about as often."

From The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law:

"Fraud by individual voters is both irrational and extremely rare. Most citizens who take the time to vote offer their legitimate signatures and sworn oaths with the gravitas that this hard-won civic right deserves. Even for the few who view voting merely as a means to an end, however, voter fraud is a singularly foolish way to attempt to win an election. Each act of voter fraud risks five years in prison and a $10,000 fine - but yields at most one incremental vote. The single vote is simply not worth the price."

It all a made-up problem.

so Dave in your world , if a criminal commits a crime that really isn't committed that often that crime and criminal should be overlooked because its a ''rare instance'' ? if we are truly a nation of laws we should uphold ALL LAWS not just the laws the party in power wants upheld during their time in power, do I think republicans commit voter fraud ..damn right I think they do , do I think democrats commit voter fraud ..damn right I do , do I think independents commit voter fraud ..damn right I do , the difference between me and you,I think every one of them are criminals not just the ones in the other party, and then we have the illegal vote which is more than just a few people voting there are app. 15 million illegals in this country if 1/3 of them commit voter fraud its no little thing , if every vote counts as we're supposed to believe why not make sure every vote is legal ,this is not a republican or democrat or independent issue its an AMERICAN issue and all Americans should take issue with an illegal vote canceling out their legal vote

Dear residents of New Hampshire,

Please take your civic duty seriously this year.

1) These Republicans are not the Republican Party that you remember. It is a new breed, and if you have been punching your ticket Republican for years because you formulated your political ideology in yesteryear, I encourage you to reevaluate.
2) Always remember that the votes that you cast can elect people who will pull the rug out from under you- legally. Remember that the folks you vote in will control everything from education, healthcare (or lack thereof), jobs, and the court system to name but a few things. If you elect the ALEC-publicans, you are going to get a corporate government.
3) Your House of Representatives gets paid $100 per person for a representative salary. It's a pittance that doesn't even cover the gas it takes to get there. Ask yourself the question- what is their motive for being there?
4) Be suspicious of Fear and Loathing 2012. Vote for something, don't just vote out of fear and hatred.

Ridiculous. Doesn't make any sense at all. The Dems have actually shifted to the right since 1960, and the Republicans have gone completely insane - launching wars while spouting about God, running up the debt, ruining education, and standing in the way of science and rational thought. There's nothing "conservative" about today's Republican party, and how you figure they're like "what the old Democrat party was" is anyone's guess.

Socialism is Government ownership of the means of production, distribution of wealth, and goods.
Hitler was a socialist, as was Stalin and Castro. Socialists take over everything banks, big companies When everything is owned by the Government, and you have to rely on that same Government to get handouts and survive you are living under communism. There must be someone in town that came here from Cuba, or perhaps an older German if you know anyone that fits this, just ask them I think you would be surprised at the deplorable way they had to survive. In August of 1934,members the Wehrmacht were required to recite a Reichswehreid,an oath of personal allegiance to Adolf Hitler. This oath ignored God and country but swore an oath to a man,Adolf Hitler. The soldiers were to fight and die on the behalf of the dear leader. Such loyalty oaths originated in ancient Rome and have been repeated throughout history and to different tyrants.

Obama

in his narcissist mindset,he truly believes the military serves at his whim. In an ABC interview concerning his flip-flop on Gay marriage he said “when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone,”

Hitler had his "Volks Wagen". Obama has his "Volt". Both were funded by the taxpayers. The difference? one letter ,Hitler's car was a long-term sucess and the people wanted to buy it. Obama's car, runs (when it runs), on electricity generated by burning coal. (defeating the very purpose of the electric car). Hitler's car was cheap to buy, hence "the Volks Wagen" or, "Folks Car". Obama's Volt wagen costs north of 50 grand. If one of the "batteries" goes out, they cost $8,OOO.00 each! The only difference between Hitler and Obama? ................Hitler had a better car !

You're a mind reader now? You must be, because Obama's BEHAVIOR certainly doesn't suggest such a thing. Our FORMER "bring 'em on" war-crazy chicken-hawk President fits that descripton perfectly, though. Maybe you're confusing the two?

The Chevy Volt is a GM product. Any suggestion Obama ordered it built is the stuff of fantasy. Nothing like Hitler and the VW. Pathetic.

Undeniably fascist ...

Republicans ARE fascists. They deny it and they'll even call liberals fascists (they love attempting to redefine words that describe them in an unflattering way). Not sure where this list originally appeared but you can Google it and find it in any of a number of locations.

14 IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS OF FASCISM

1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism
2. Disdain for the importance of human rights
3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause
4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism
5. Rampant sexism
6. A controlled mass media
7. Obsession with national security
8. Religion and government are intertwined
9. Power of corporations protected
10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated
11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts
12. Obsession with crime and punishment
13. Rampant cronyism and corruption

Oh Jim, Jim, Jim! I have got to hand it to you! I was already well aware of your crazy far right Conspiracy theories and silly name calling antics. Now I see you have the standard republican talking points down to a science as well. But talking points and reality are not synonymous.
1] Who is “we”? Obama has not “nationalized” anything. Case closed.
2] Here you would have had a point-if the was the year 1940. The Democratic Party has grown and Learned while your party has regressed.
. From the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009, Democrats have fought to end discrimination in all forms—including discrimination based on race, sex, ethnicity or national origin, language, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability.
3] No. I mean like lying about weapons of mass destruction and linking Saddam Hussein to 9/11 to start a war. YES. THAT IS BUSHES FAULT.
4] Bloated defense budgets and unjust wars weaken, not strengthen, national security.
5] Sexism. Not perversion. There is a difference Jim. Example- Republicans trying to kill the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
6] Over 90% of talk radio is conservative. 75% of the guests on television talk shows like “Meet the Press” are conservative. Newspapers have been trending conservative thanks to the corrupt Murdock empire. And now thanks to “Citizens United” unlimited corporate money flows into Political Campaigns.

7] Republicans couldn’t care less about the American People.
8] You never heard of the religious right? It’s your party.
9] Oh yes! The attack on clean energy funneled by ALEC, the Koch Brothers, and Big Oil. Solyndra Solyndra Solyndra. Successes and failures happen with high risk, high reward, Technology. People died in failed Space Missions before Armstrong’s first steps on the moon. Its funny Jim, you Republican’s never mention the highly successful solar companies like Sun Power, First Solar, and Bright Source energy. Heaven forbid we allow competition withBig Oil.
10] No Jim. I’m not confused at all. Union membership has been plunging for decades And so have incomes for most Americans. All productivity gains line the pockets of the Super wealthy. This trend has more or less continued since Ronald Regan held office. But you don’t care about facts.
11] I see. But you have no problem subsidizing Big Oil, and Big Pharma, and unjust wars With tax payer money. Got it.

LJoel Hackbart

1:50 am on Saturday, May 19, 2012

12] It is too bad Obama and Eric Holder can’t read. If they did Holder would have done his job And prosecuted Bush/Cheney for war crimes.
13] I never said both parties weren’t corrupt. But it’s the Republicans that are undermining common sense regulations for the Big Banks, Big Oil, or Big Pharma, because they are bought out.
14] Oh poor poor Jim. I’m really sorry you don’t even know the difference between Voter Fraud And Election Fraud. I guess I have to spell it out for you. Voter Fraud is an individual act to cast an illegal Vote. The risk to reward ratio is so great this act is fundamentally irrational and is therefore virtually Non-existent. Election Fraud on the other hand are actions that alter large vote counts that can trip An election. Stuffing ballot boxes, rigging machines, not counting blocks of votes, and perhaps
The worst example-disenfranchising millions of voters. Election Fraud happened in 2000, 2004, and now in 2012.

White House Inserts Obama Into Previous Presidents’ Official Biographies
Posted on May 15, 2012 by Cowboy Byte

I honestly thought this was a joke. Nope. I’ll let Commentary’s Seth Mandel take it from here:

The Heritage Foundation’s Rory Cooper tweeted that Obama had casually dropped his own name into Ronald Reagan’s official biography on www.whitehouse.gov, claiming credit for taking up the mantle of Reagan’s tax reform advocacy with his “Buffett Rule” gimmick. My first thought was, he must be joking. But he wasn’t—it turns out Obama has added bullet points bragging about his own accomplishments to the biographical sketches of every single U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge (except, for some reason, Gerald Ford).

I must be missing something in this whole argument about voter ID?

Specifically, what's so hard about obtaining some form of identification for yourself and why is it somehow harder for Latinos than African Americans or Italians?

At the border I'm asked for identification. If I'm stopped while driving or queried by an officer of the law for jaywalking I have to identify myself. When I go to the bank to cash a check I'm asked for ID. When I buy a box of Sudafed at the drug store I need to show ID... the list goes on.

We have drivers licenses but for those who don't drive we also have state issued identification...

If there's a problem getting an identification card into the hands of every citizen of this country shouldn't we be arguing about how to make it easier and less controversial/discriminatory (assuming that's the argument against identification)?

Once you satisfy the requirement that everyone have some form of identification what's the big deal about whipping it out at the polling place?

I guess I'm missing something.

Yes, you are missing something, Richard M. The constitution doesn't give you the right to buy Sudafed. When was the last time you were asked for ID at the bank, seriously? If you live in NH, it was probably never. You're regurgitating a list of standard GOP arguments for voting rights - though you forgot to add getting on a plane.

What you're missing is the WHY. Where's the proof of voter fraud (not committed by out of state Republicans) in NH?

Arizona official to Hawaii: Show birth verification
Eligibility dispute elevated to formal inquiry from state elections office
A state official in Arizona has asked Hawaii for verification of the information on Barack Obama’s birth certificate, the document that Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s special investigative team has concluded may be a forgery.

Residents of Surprise, Ariz., , who petitioned Arpaio to investigate Obama’s eligibility, say they are awaiting word from the state secretary of state regarding whether Obama’s name will be on the 2012 presidential ballot in Arizona. Secretary of State Ken Bennett had promised to ask Hawaii officials for verification of Obama’s documentation, vowing that if answers are not forthcoming, Obama’s name will not be on the ballot.

The assurance came in an email to various constituents in Arizona who had contacted Bennett’s office expressing concern that the name of an ineligible candidate would be presented to voters in November.

Because of the importance and profile of the president’s case, and at the request of many constituents, I have gone the extra step of asking the state of Hawaii to verify the facts contained in his birth certificate,” Bennett wrote in response to concerns last month. “Hawaii is bound by their own statutes to provide such verifications to other state officials in their official duties.

“With all due respect, the [Arpaio] investigation has not proven anything other than raised probable cause that the birth certificate posted on the White House website ‘may be’ a forgery. The next lawful step would be for the sheriff’s office to turn their findings over to the county attorney for prosecution,” he continued. “Evidence would be brought on both sides and a judge should issue a decision.

“Whether or not that happens, if Hawaii can’t or won’t provide verification of the president’s birth certificate, I will not put his name on the ballot,” he wrote.

“I can tell from the tone and language of your letters that the only acceptable outcome for you is that his name not be on the ballot, period. That may be what happens, but under my watch, it won’t happen based on opinions, petitions, probability or pledges to support or oppose me in the 2014 governor’s race. My oath of office is to uphold the Constitution and laws of our state and country, and I’m going to do that by following the law,” he said.

Amen, said Brian Reilly,of Surprise Az who originated the idea of asking Arpaio for an investigation.

He also was part of the group that sought from the state legislature this year a requirement that presidential candidates document their eligibility. The proposal that fell by the wayside despite some 3,000 signatures of people endorsing the plan. Reilly said that those who contacted Bennett are concerned about the integrity of the state ballot and “whether their votes mean anything.” He argued, as have others, that having an ineligible candidate on the ballot destroys the integrity of the entire election process.

Reilly said he’s confident the system will produce the truth eventually. And Az residents are awaiting word on whether Hawaii has provided the information Bennett has sought.

“In my mind, no way can (Hawaii) certify or confirm what that is,” he said, referring to the birth certificate image posted online by Obama. “We actually need to see the hard copy.”

One constituent message to Bennett said, “There is a great deal of weight that has been placed onto your shoulders, base[d] on the requirements that your office has and can impose … on anyone that wishes to run for president. All that we ask is that you do your absolute best, to [e]nsure that everyone who[se] name appears on the ballot in the 2012 president election, is eligible to become president if elected.”

Bennett’s communications director, Matt Roberts, said today that the secretary of state indeed has asked Hawaii for the answers. In fact, he said, there was a conversation about proper procedures to submit the request.
“We are awaiting their response,” he said.

Feds stonewall on Obama draft registration record
Agency contends microfilm available only to authorized federal investigation
Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse says Selective Service System officials apparently are trying to dissuade the Arizona investigative team from attempting to obtain original documentation to determine whether Barack Obama’s draft registration form is authentic.

Cold Case Posse lead investigator Mike Zullo received a letter from an official claiming the agency cannot release the original microfilm of Obama’s draft registration unless the inquiry comes from a law enforcement organization under federal jurisdiction conducting a federally authorized investigation.

The Cold Case Posse authorized by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has found probable cause that the Selective Service draft registration form presented by Obama is a forgery. Lead investigator ,Mike Zullo sent a letter last week to Selective Service System Director Lawrence Romo asking for reassurance that microfilm records of Obama’s draft registration form still existed after it was reported that new Selective Service privacy rules might allow existing microfilm records to be destroyed as well.

The May 10 reply to Zullo’s inquiry, from Associate Director of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs Richard S. Flahavan, explained that “for security purpose and to prevent workflow disruption in servicing public inquiries,” access to both the master microfilm copy of the record and the working copy is not available to the public.

“However, access is available to law enforcement organizations with Federal jurisdiction that are conducting an authorized Federal investigation,” Flahavan said.

Zullo said that the agency’s statement “is pretty much indicating to us that the attempt here is to dissuade us from attempting to see the original microfilm record, the master copy.”

He said his team wants to know whether the restriction on access to the documents is a statutory regulation or an internal policy newly created by Selective Service.

The new letter, he said, at least confirms that while the paper copies have been destroyed, the microfilm record still exists.

Shocker! Obama was still 'Kenyan-born' in 2007
Literary references show description in promotion of 'Dreams' book
While some quickly dismissed as an anomaly yesterday’s explosive revelation that Barack Obama’s former literary agency billed him as “born in Kenya” back in 1991 in connection with a book he never wrote, much later published references – some dated as recently as 2007 – used to promote his highly touted book “Dreams from My Father were discovered. Breitbart News originally found a brochure from two decades ago in which literary agency Acton & Dystel promoted Obama as the author of the never-produced “Journeys in Black and White” by declaring Obama was “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.”

Twelve years later, however, the Dystel of Acton & Dystel was busy promoting Obama’s new book, “Dreams from My Father,” and still touting the author as “born in Kenya.”

Through the Internet archive Wayback Machine, it has found an August 2003 listing of Dystel & Goderich’s author bios, including the following: “Barack Obama was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii and Chicago. His first book is ‘Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.”

Even if the original 1991 brochure’s listing of Kenya as Obama’s birthplace was in error, as the agency has since claimed, it apparently was an error Obama allowed his publicist to persist in for over a decade, right until after he was running for president.

In April 2007, two months after Obama had launched his presidential bid, Dystel was still touting the then-Democratic senator from Illinois as “born in Kenya.”

"I can tell you just about everyone who is a citizen has an ID card."

You can't tell us that with certainty, because how would you know? That aside, I believe it's probably true. I can't think of a single person I know personally who doesn't have a government-issued photo ID. But that's not the point. The point is SOME people don't. Many elderly people don't have driver's licenses, and other forms of ID don't satisfy the requirements. Same with students - many don't have a driver's license. Social Security cards don't qualify. Student IDs don't either. So if this new law is really going to be fair, every person of voting age in America needs to be mailed a photo ID so nobody is denied their constitutional right to vote. That's costs money. It also takes time. The GOP is pushing these laws before November to suppress the vote. Here's one example the fallout. There are more:

Paul Carroll, a 86-year-old World War II veteran, was denied his right to vote in Ohio's primary contest today after a poll worker refused to accept Carroll's photo ID from the Department of Veterans Affairs.http://www.opposingviews.com/i/politics/2012-election/86-year-old-us-veteran-paul-carroll-denied-right-vote

They've also shortened the period for mail registration and early mail voting in some states. In the interim, this website will tell everyone, regardless of state, what they need to be sure they can vote: http://gottavote.org/en/NH/

Dave ,come on I know your not that dumb , he had no ID because the two IDs he had were insufficient, one was expired and one didn't have his address so he had NO ID that was good enough to use to vote, the LAW requires that your ID has ,a home address,a picture, and your name as I explained in my post his driver's licence had expired so how was the person supposed to know he didn't move and this was still his address ,the other ID his veterans card had no address so it also was no good as ID to vote, no one is above the laws not even veterans , I would be more worried about an illegal vote canceling out my legal vote and also the man could have voted a poll worker said but he got hot about his mistake and left this was clearly his fault no one else's , in your bizarro world you can pick and choose which people get to break the laws, but in the real world it dont work that way .... the head line should have read , Poll Worker Follows Laws !!

Findings from a running 40 year study done by USC of 100 voters 50 democrats and 50 republicans show that during these voters lives they voted 85% of the time with the party they most closely associate with, but that after their deaths 100% of both republican and democrat voters, voted strictly for democrats.

Hilarious. Dead people don't vote, and the only attempt at voter fraud you can point to is by a GOP activist. This is a cooked-up problem by the ever-scheming GOP to suppress the vote by denying Americans their Constitutional rights. If Republicans don't cheat, they don't win.

seriously Dave whats wrong with making sure no voter fraud is committed ? even if it happens only once or twice in an election that's one or two legal votes that are canceled out it could be your vote canceled out by an illegal vote, if an older person needs a ride to obtain an ID to vote they will need to ask the same person who drives them to the polls to drive them to get their ID, I'm led to believe the riff raff in both parties commit fraud and I would like to see it stopped, as I said long ago it dont matter who commits the fraud a republican a dem or an independent its against the law and we need to stop it for the good of all the legal voters

I'm amazed that acorn- who was accused of doing voter registration drives (not voting!) with cash incentives- is so horrible, but denying a World War II veteran voting rights due to voter ID laws is a yawn-inducing moment for the right wing. I thought Republicans had an obsession about the military and soldiers. But not if they can vote for their leadership, right? It's only if you can exploit them to drive more military contracts to big businesses by sounding the trumpets and flying the aircraft over football games. Asinine as usual.

Furthermore, I fail to see the difference between super pacs blowing money left and right to influence elections- led by the millionaires and billionaires that make up the right wing- from actually doing voter registration. David Koch is a paragon of virtue, but some guy making 50 bucks for getting citizens registered is an affront to American virtue?

In my mind, it's unacceptable in both cases. The only difference is one of them is a billionaire. And one last point- voter ID would not affect either case, and it does not register a vote. Actual voting is done by actual people, which is what your complaint *was*; I understand if now you are tapdancing to some other topic when facts and reality meet your collective raving lunacy.

for the sheeple ,this is from your fist link about congressional speech levels :

senior fellow Lee Drutman emphasized in an interview with Yahoo News that the exact cause is difficult to determine, but the foundation's report concludes that an influx of new members is dragging down the grade level average for Congress overall. But Drutman said the results are neither good nor bad, in his opinion.

"On one hand, you might be concerned that members are speaking at a lower level," Drutman said. But he added on the other, "You might see it as just members speaking more directly to their constituents and being more accessible and plain-spoken."

Drutman noted that many public speakers, writers and others are educated on how to speak and write in simple terms to reach the widest audience.

Drutman said the shift "reflects some of the ways the institution has changed" and said the study was conducted in the "spirit of fun" and was not intended to "pass judgement."

It should be noted that the Congressional Record can be amended by members, meaning they can insert speeches they never actually issued and modify those they did issue. Drutman said he has no data to base a guess on how that may shape the grade level results overall.

notice where even the researchers tell you low IQ liberals not to take their research to literally

Hodson was quick to note that the despite the link found between low intelligence and social conservatism, the researchers aren't implying that all liberals are brilliant and all conservatives stupid. The research is a study of averages over large groups, he said.

"There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals," Hodson said.

Nosek gave another example to illustrate the dangers of taking the findings too literally.

"We can say definitively men are taller than women on average," he said. "But you can't say if you take a random man and you take a random woman that the man is going to be taller. There's plenty of overlap."

right leaning. CNN puts out a once in the blue moon story you don't like and then

A 1996 print advertisement in a local Chicago newspaper shows President Obama was the speaker at an event sponsored and presented by the Democratic Socialists of America, the DSA.

Buzzfeed.com reporter Andrew Kaczynski posted on his Twitter account an image of the Hyde Park Herald ad for the Feb. 25, 1996, DSA event, billed as “the first townhall meeting on economic insecurity.”

Obama has shown evidence of a larger relationship with the DSA.

The panelists at the 1996 DSA event included Obama, then a candidate for the 13th Illinois Senate District; William Julius Wilson, a longtime DSA activist from the Center for the Study of Urban Inequality at the University of Chicago; Professor Michael Dawson from the University of Chicago; and Professor Joseph Schwartz, a member of DSA’s National Political Committee.

According to the archive of the DSA’s March-April 1996 newsletter, New Ground, reviewed by WND, Obama reportedly addressed a crowd of over 300 people, discussing a theme from his campaign, “What does it take to create productive communities?”

Obama reportedly outlined how government can play “constructive” roles in shaping society, the DSA newsletter:
One theme that has emerged in Obama’s campaign is ’what does it take to create productive communities,’ not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left. He felt the state government has three constructive roles to play. The first is ’human capital development.’ public education, welfare reform, and a ‘workforce preparation strategy.’ Public education requires equality in funding. It’s not that money is the only solution to public education’s problems but it’s a start toward a solution. The current proposals for welfare reform are intended to eliminate welfare but it’s also true that the status quo is not tenable.
A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. Obama did not use this term, it sounded to much like the ‘social wage’ approach used by many social democratic labor parties. By ‘workforce preparation strategy,’ Obama meant a govterment coordinated, program of job training The state government can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs. As Obama noted, when someone gets paid $10 million to eliminate 4,000 jobs, the voters in his district know this is an issue of power not economics. The government can use as tools labor law reform, public works and contracts.

Working within Democratic Party
The DSA is a member of the Socialist International, the world’s largest socialist group.
the DSA has been closely linked to the Democratic Party, in particular to the party’s Progressive Caucus.
Until 1999, the website of the Progressive Caucus was hosted by the DSA. Following an expose of the link between the two organizations, the Progressive Caucus established its own website under the auspices of Congress. The Democratic Socialists of America’s chief organizing goal is to work within the Democratic Party and remove the stigma attached to “socialism” in the eyes of most Americans. “Stress our Democratic Party strategy and electoral work,” explains an organizing document of the DSA. “The Democratic Party is something the public understands, and association with it takes the edge off. Stressing our Democratic Party work will establish some distance from the radical subculture and help integrate you to the milieu of the young liberals.”

Nevertheless, the goal of the DSA has never been deeply hidden. Prior to the cleanup of its website in 1999, the DSA included a song list featuring “The Internationale,” the worldwide anthem of communism and socialism.

Another song on the site was “Red Revolution,” sung to the tune of “Red Robin.” The lyrics went: “When the Red Revolution brings its solution along, along, there’ll be no more lootin’ when we start shootin’ that Wall Street throng.”

Obama connected to socialist group

Top Democratic Socialists of America members have been closely linked for years to Obama.

Quentin Young, considered the father of the U.S. single-payer health-care movement, is a longtime Democratic Socialists of America activist. Young has had a relationship with Obama, particularly in the 1990s, when he reportedly advised Obama on health care.

Young was reportedly present at a 1995 meeting at the home of former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, who was said to have launched Obama’s political career.

Young has been active in Chicago socialist circles and was previously accused of membership in a communist group. In 1992, Chicago’s branch of the Democratic Socialists of America awarded Young, a member, with their highest honor, the Debs Award.

In a 2008 article in the official Communist Party USA magazine, Young noted Obama previously expressed support for a single-payer universal health-care program, although he later waffled when asked about his position.
As an Illinois state senator representing a mostly black district on the South Side of Chicago, Obama publicly supported universal health care. He also co-sponsored the Bernardin Amendment, which did not pass but would have amended the Illinois state Constitution to add health care to the list of basic rights for residents.
Meanwhile, Obama spoke at the March 29, 1998, memorial service for Chicago Democratic Socialists of America member Saul Mendelson.

Timuel Black, a member activist, mediated political disputes on behalf of Obama in the 1990s and was reportedly involved in Obama’s campaign committee during his successful 2004 Senate race.

Longtime member and activist Arnold Wolf was a member of “Rabbis for Obama” and has held fundraisers in his home for Obama, including a function in 1995 that was aimed at introducing Obama to the Hyde Park activist community.

Eliseo Medina, international executive vice president of the Service Employees International Union, has been honored by Democratic Socialists of America. During the most recent presidential campaign, Medina served on Obama’s National Latino Advisory Council.

WND reported Medina, speaking at a 2009 Washington, D.C., conference, declared granting citizenship to millions of illegal aliens would expand the progressive electorate and help ensure a progressive governing coalition for the long term.
